BIG HOUSE Studio Jamaica to launch online memories site RIPSPACE Records (Ripspace.com) powered by ULTRA Intelligence Platform.
San Francisco, California; Kingston, Jamaica -- March 16, 2007

BIG HOUSE Studio Jamaica, the newest addition to the BIG HOUSE Studios franchise, is set to launch a revolutionary new territory on the web, Ripspace.com, the new home of the deceased and remembered. BIG HOUSE Studio manager Amy Chun explains:

How did the idea for the online memorial come about?

The idea for Ripspace.com came about while working on our upcoming picture book, BIG HOUSE Studio: Year 5. While we were reviewing all the images of people having fun and getting creative at BIG HOUSE last year, someone remarked that none of us would be alive 100 years from now. That triggered some soul searching. We started thinking that there ought to be a way to remember people who’ve passed on, a collective place on the web that everyone could share. The result is Ripspace.com.

Aren’t there enough “space” sites already?

There’s never been a final resting place on the web until now. Ripspace.com will be a universal repository of human experience and memory, so people can come back in 75 years or 7,500 years and take a look at ordinary people’s lives. We’re backing the site up with the ULTRA Intelligence Platform from Avestar-IP. ULTRA which filters the glut of content on the web. It will enable people to quickly find the right John Smith, for example, without Googling themselves to death.

Is it mostly for famous people?

Not at all. In Ripspace.com, everyone counts. Throughout history, the emphasis has been on royalty, since they were the only ones capable of leaving behind a monument to record their lives. Now we’ll see that ordinary people live extraordinary lives. This is not just about fairy tales and celebrities. It’s about lives.

How much will a RIPSPACE Record cost?

First let’s define it. To “record” means to preserve in writing, to register, to chronicle for all time. It’s by nature a public endeavor. That’s why we made RIPSPACE Records free. It’s a place to be creative, to collaborate. We envision people posting music, images, stories, journals, poems—all kinds of testimony to the richness of their lives.

Why the RASTA Colors and Conquering Lion logo?

BIG HOUSE Studio and Avestar-IP owners are from Jamaica and heavily influenced by the Rastafari culture. BIG HOUSE recently launched BIG HOUSE Studio Jamaica in Crooked River, Clarendon, Jamaica, the birthplace of the first Rasta, Leonard Howell. It seemed fitting to carry that legacy through to Ripspace.com.

Why wasn’t something like RIPSPACE launched before?

That’s what we thought! It’s time has come at last. The Internet can now record everything that happens. We’ve had pre-history, then history, and now the Internet.
